Cranleigh is the largest village in England by population and has a varied housing stock that reflects decades of residential development. The older parts of the village, particularly around the high street and the village green, contain Victorian and Edwardian cottages and houses, while the outer areas have a significant number of 1960s, 1970s and 1980s detached and semi-detached homes on established estates.
Extension and loft conversion work is popular in Cranleigh, particularly on the postwar estates where properties are well maintained but can feel constrained in terms of bedroom numbers or living space. Rear extensions to create open-plan kitchens and hip-to-gable loft conversions to add bedrooms are among the most frequent projects we carry out in the village.
Waverley Borough Council handles planning for Cranleigh, and permitted development rights apply in most parts of the village. The edges of the village are subject to Green Belt designation, which means extensions or new outbuildings in these locations are more likely to require planning permission.
