If your home has a hipped roof, where the end of the roof slopes inward rather than meeting a vertical gable wall, a hip-to-gable loft conversion could be the best way to maximise the space available to you.
This type of conversion works by removing the sloping hip section at the side of the roof and replacing it with a full vertical gable wall, extending the ridge of the roof and creating a significantly larger loft space. When combined with a rear dormer, a hip-to-gable conversion produces one of the most spacious loft conversions possible, often allowing for two rooms within the new space.
Hip-to-gable conversions are most suited to end-of-terrace, semi-detached and detached properties with hipped roofs. They are particularly popular on 1930s and 1950s semi-detached houses across Surrey and Hampshire.
